Brotherhood of the White Temple

The last organization I was able to find that related themselves to the White Brotherhood was, The Brotherhood of the White Temple. This Brotherhood claims to again have it’s origins from mystical and divine sources. Their teachings are based upon the translations of _ The Emerald Tablets of Thoth_. Not to be confused with The Emerald Tablet of Hermes.

The tablets were translated by Dr.Doreal. Dr.Doreal has a connection with the Great White Lodge or mystic masters that presumably exist upon the ethereal planes. The tablets themselves are said to be created by Thoth the atlantean from a substance made from alchemical experimentation.

“His writings consist of twelve Tablets of Emerald Green formed from a substance created through alchemical transmutation. They are imperishable, resistant to all elements, corrosion and acids. In effect, the atomic and cellular structure is fixed, and no change can take place, thus violating the material law of ionization.

Upon them are engraved characters in the Ancient Atlantean language; characters which respond to the attuned thought waves of the reader and which release much more wisdom and information than the characters do when merely deciphered. The Tablets are fastened together with hoops of a golden colored alloy suspended from a rod of the same material.”

You can order a copy of the tablets translated by Dr.Doreal here or read them online here. From the description of the tablets, they seem about as tangible as the gold plates of the mormons. In other words there is no tangible evidence of either of them. If this were not enough, little to no information can be found on Dr.Doreal. Not even a first or last name.

Now this can mean one of two things, the first is that Dr.Doreal is in fact fictitious and started his own cult. After all the brotherhood is on over 1500 acres in Colorado. Or it could in fact mean that Dr.Doreal is of the Great White Brotherhood. Given his description and the description of the tablets could very well be a high possibility.

Regardless it seems that the famed White Brotherhood of esoterica remains intangible. The Brotherhood holds as much realism and esteem as Santa Claus, or the Easter Bunny, that is to say it is probably only a dream. However since the true brotherhood is said to exist in higher dimensions; we were damned from the start to never find empirical evidence. So ultimately whether they are real or imaginary remains in your hands my dear reader.

I lived in Sedalia for a long time on acreage adjacent to the Brotherhood of the White Temple — not a member myself but have attended many functions and know many of the members today. I thought you might be interested to know that Maurice Doreal was actually born Claude Doggins in Sulfer Springs, Oklahoma in or about 1898.

  2. I’m new to the Dr. Doreal information, but you certainly enlightened me as to his philosophy and his birth/death dates.

Do you have any more to relate regarding his Temple Church in Colorado? They have a promising web site.

I grew up on BWT literature. After reading The Emerald Tablets again I can only conclude that Doreal was a fraud. He mixes science fiction with occult and Christianity. While much of the knowledge he gives is valid, much of it is also straight science fiction. My father wasted his life on this stuff and died waiting for Armageddon to happen. But I am thankful my father was into it, nonetheless, because he started me on a path of mysticism and yoga. Perhaps in the end, considering Reality as not apart from Divinity, it is faith and practice that is more important than absolute truth. This is Brahman.
I am also thankful for being introduced to things like looking at scripture as something to be decoded by wisdom, as opposed to literal interpretation.

I too was raised on BWT but also on MRS (Metaphysical Research Society) where Trenton Tully, one of Doreal’s chosen torch bearers, continued the teachings of Doreal (meta(higher level) physics) but in his own format. It was much less doom & gloom and rather focused on the teachings of esoteric masters from many realms, times & places. He touched on subjects ranging from how to treat illness, be kind to your neighbor & so on to rather deep ‘otherworldy’ concepts. If one followed his doctrine, achieved success with the excercises… ie- those that lead to astral awareness- and beyond it was plain as day that these were very special people indeed. On the other hand some of his students were into the whole sensationalism of the ideas pronounced (which I don’t think he minded as he knew that he was also speaking to their subconscious and they were perhaps absorbing at least something worthwhile). They just gobbled up the UFO stuff, the Hidden Masters business and so on (which I believe to be true to some degrees). They weren’t getting the point of self development to an extended degree. Just grasping for something that would make the world seem more interesting.

As to the Armageddon scenarios Doreal touched upon… I think very much that these are still possible and that his timing may have been off or that world events had adjusted the timing. I am actually entertaining the notion the outward manifestation of the cycle has begun.

If you’re fortunate enough to get your hands on written materials from either Dr. Doreal (much of this can be attained from the BWT group that are still in Colorado ~ honestly I don’t know very much about the state of the school or who is running the show but I would approach with discernment) or Trenton Tully…( unfortunately when he died the MRS students formed factions which fought an ugly, messy battle in the courts for ownership of the belongings of the school & Dr. Tully’s personal items. If I’m not mistaken (I walked away from the whole scene & stay in very remote touch) they are still holding lectures at the site of the school which is in Denver, Colorado) do so.

Please forgive my long-windedness I came upon this site as I am seeking others who are truly on a path for discussion & community. I can be contacted at:

i also grew up with GWT and Dr. Trenton. they taught on many levels at once people got the information on the level they were able to understand
a few years prior to trentons passing he opened the doors to all comers, prior to that those who were allowed to study needed to have a level of awareness that and out side interference played out as a court battle, interesting lessons people choose to take on. the teaching offered can not be compared to any one else if have come across… i was blessed to have had this as my foundation in life. i would also be intered in finding others on the path i can be contacted at

I recently attended a retreat at The Brotherhood of the White Temple’s Shamballa, and found it should be called “Shambles”.
Their leader teaches, that a person should have “no” intelligence to become truly spiritual, and she is unable to answer even the most basic of questions regarding spiritual growth, but has her hand out continually to take your money.
It is the most fear based organization that I have ever had the misfortune to be involved with.
Their is no apparent vibration of spirituality at their premises in Sedalia Colorado, it is dejected and in disarray, over grown and unloved.
